Job Summary

Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology (ASSETT) is hiring a Temporary UI Developer to support the creation of a computer simulation for the Virtual Labs project, funded and collaborating with the ASSETT Innovation Incubator. The Temporary UI Developer will work collaboratively with faculty members and other team members to advance the project’s objectives while developing their communication skills, teamwork skills, leadership skills, and technical abilities. Ideal candidates are self-starters who have experience in user interaction and interface design. This is an exciting opportunity to directly impact the effectiveness and engagement of our simulations, while contributing to an initiative to increase undergraduate research training opportunities in the Arts & Science community.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Work closely with faculty and other developers to improve the user interface/experience (UI/X) for a computer simulation to train students to carry out biology experiments. The simulation will use an existing platform written in Godot.
  • Develop user flows, wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas and iterate based on feedback.
  • Create and maintain UI style guides, design systems, and component libraries to ensure consistency and scalability across the simulation platform.
  • Optimize UI elements for performance, accessibility, and responsiveness across different screen sizes and devices.
  • Participate in user testing and gather feedback to continuously improve the usability and visual design of the interface.
  • Work closely with developers during implementation to ensure design specifications are accurately translated into the final product.

What You Should Know

This is a temporary, hourly (maximum of 40 hours/week; subject to total eligible work hours at the university) position starting in Summer 2025.

What We Can Offer

The hourly rate for this temporary position is $20-$30.

What We Require

  • Alumni from the ATLAS Institute, with a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Proven experience (1+ years) as a UI Designer, preferably with experience in human-computer interactions or virtual environments
  • Familiarity with the current state of the simulation
  • Experience in software and web development
