Job Summary
The College of Music at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Wardrobe Supervisor & Costume Stock Coordinator! This role is responsible for two to three fully-realized Eklund Opera Program productions and two fully-realized Musical Theatre productions per academic year. In addition, this individual pulls from stock and fits costumes for one CU New Opera Workshop (CU NOW) summer program, one Composer Fellows’ Initiative (CFI) summer program and one Opera Scenes program annually.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Wardrobe Supervisor Pre-Performance
- Assist Costume Designer for Musical Theatre, CU NOW, CFI, and Opera Scenes.
- Attend production meetings as needed.
- Assist in locating rental of costumes from costume houses and/or local sources.
- Assist with production research.
- Ensures the proper labeling, hanging, storage of all costume pieces, prior to fittings through performances. Creates rack dividers, label ditty bags, etc.
- Prepares for fittings by pulling skins, footwear and other stock items.
- Assist with costume fittings by preparing piecelists, pre-measuring and assigning pieces, photo and note taking.
- Supervision of TAs, stitchers and dresser run crew to prepare costumes for performances.
- Assists with budget tracking.
- Responsible for providing a complete and accurate inventory of any rental packages to ensures all pieces are returned.
Run of Show
- Attend photo shoots, dress rehearsals, and all performances.
- Advises Production Stage Manager on backstage layout and coordinates all backstage costume activities.
- Train and supervise dresser run crew.
- Regularly inventory and inspect all costumes to identify costume repairs and ensure nothing is misplaced.
- Assists artists with dressing and quick changes.
- Load In and Load Out of venue.
- Creates the dressing area by setting up and tearing down privacy areas in venue changing rooms.
- Completes a proper cleaning schedule for all garments, ensuring that laundry and dry cleaning are done on a regular basis between performances; provide clean skin layers to the performers for each performance.
- Ensures that all costumes are properly pressed or steamed prior to each performance.
Costume Stock Storage
- Create and maintain organization systems to store costumes and all related items such as shoes, hats and accessories.
- Coordinate rentals to other entities.
- Launder or dry clean costumes as needed.
What You Should Know
While this base appointment is 50%, this position’s work may exceed full-time in production weeks. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary with weekend and evening work required during production weeks.
What We Can Offer
Annual Salary Range at 50% time: $25,500- $27,800.

What We Require
- BA or BFA in Theatre, Music or related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- At least 1 year of experience as Wardrobe Supervisor overseeing crews of at least 2 dressers.

- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of music theatre, opera literature and tradition.
- Knowledge of safety standards for costume related equipment, products, tools, and their implementation.
- Able to promote and cultivate a safe and organized work environment.
- Budgetary experience and a solid track record of bringing projects in on-time and on-budget.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Word and Excel as well as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms.
- Performing physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 30 lbs., bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs and ladders, with or without accommodation.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends for technical rehearsals and performances.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Has established relationships with other educational institutions and professional performing arts organizations.
- 3+ years of experience as Wardrobe Supervisor overseeing crews of at least 2 dressers.
- 3+ years of developing organizational systems and procedures to create efficiencies in workflow.
