Job Summary

The Division of Public Safety at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Protective Services Manager! This role plays a crucial role within CU Boulder’s Division of Public Safety, which is dedicated to fostering a culture of safety, integrity, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Director of Community Safety, this position leads a team of professionals responsible for the daily operations of protective services on campus.

The Protective Services Manager is expected to provide strategic leadership, ensuring the successful execution of departmental goals, driving innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This role requires strong decision-making skills, a focus on team development, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to enhance overall safety and security operations. The Protective Services Manager's primary responsibility is to support the Division’s mission by fostering and maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of staff to meet and exceed departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance work culture.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, provide updates, and ensure alignment with broader strategic priorities.
  • Provide feedback, set clear performance expectations, and conduct performance evaluations to support individual and team growth.

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develop and implement critical initiatives that support both departmental and university-wide goals.
  • Analyze operational data, trends, and feedback to find opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align protective services strategies with overall organizational priorities.
  • Monitor progress against established goals, making adjustments to strategies as necessary.

Operations Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and quality across all protective services activities.
  • Identify, address, and resolve operational challenges to streamline processes and optimize team performance.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and schedules to ensure successful project and operational outcomes.
  • Continuously review and refine policies, procedures, and workflows to improve performance.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a key liaison for internal and external collaborators, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Represent the department in meetings, providing regular updates and responding to inquiries from senior leadership.
  • Address and resolve team member concerns in a timely, professional manner.

What You Should Know

Weekends and nights may be required.

What We Can Offer

The starting salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in security services or a closely related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience can substitute on a year for year basis.

What You Will Need

  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mentality with the ability to assess and resolve complex issues.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, or other relevant tools.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • 2+ years of experience in private security, military, or law enforcement roles.
  • Knowledge of national and regional public safety landscapes.
  • Experience in protective services or safety management.
  • Engagement with public safety organizations or initiatives.
  • Proven success in delivering innovative security solutions and cost-saving strategies.
