​​The Department of Political Science at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professorship in Political Theory.

Who We Are

​​CU Political Science department comprises roughly 30 full-time faculty, over 1,000 undergraduate majors, about 50 Ph.D. students, and three full-time staff members. We provide students with a rigorous education and conduct influential research in all subfields of the discipline.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • ​​​Teaching Political Science Undergraduate courses and participating in departmental service. ​​ 
  • ​The successful candidate will contribute four courses a semester (a 4/4 load), and perform service to the department and university. These courses will include a variety of upper-level undergraduate courses in our existing catalog, and eventually elective courses in areas of the candidate’s specialization. The appointment will initially be for three years, with the possibility of reappointments and promotions (up to the rank of Full Teaching Professor) thereafter.

  • ​​​This is a non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor.​​ 
  • The position has a start date of August 2026, and the successful applicant must be in residence. The position requires being in-person and on campus during the 9-month academic year.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is ​​$60,000 annually. A $4,000 moving allowance is​ available.

What We Require

  • ​​​PhD in Political Science or related field is required. 
  • ​Ph.D. in hand as of August 13, 2026. ABDs are welcome to apply.
  • Experience as the instructor of record in at least one course.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • ​While the bulk of the teaching will be done in the subfield of political theory, we prefer candidates who can demonstrate the ability to offer courses in at least one other subfield of political science.
    • Cover letters must discuss how the candidate’s experience qualifies them to teach in another subfield.
