Job Summary

The Student Life Technology Solutions department with CU Boulder is currently accepting applications for an Electronics Specialist! This role provides timely service to students, staff, guests and contractors in need of security/access services, by installing, servicing, calibrating and maintaining Student Life's access control and security systems. Provide service, maintenance, documentation, and installation of associated door hardware and security peripherals.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Daily Responsibilities

  • Electronic Lock and Access Control Technical Training, Support and Projects Installation, repair, calibration, maintenance and training for electronic security systems including card access control (Salto and C-CURE), readers, control panels, wiring, IP Video cameras, recorders, multiplexers, quads, monitors, intrusion detectors, switches and contacts.
  • Certified software knowledge to train others to detect and address problems in various systems.
  • Responds to daily service calls as well as supports ongoing internal and capital construction projects by being a point of contact for design reviews and standards inspections.

Locksmithing

  • Perform entry-level locksmithing by installation, repair, rework and maintenance of all door security hardware including magnetic locks, electronic strikes, electro-mechanical locks, pneumatic and electro-mechanical door operators, panic exit devices and standard locking hardware.
  • Basic Re-keying of cylinders and keys.
  • Issue and track key issuance for Student Life by assigning keys, securing proper authorization paperwork and inputting information in database.
  • This work requires this position to drive a university vehicle to complete these assignments.

Technical Compliance and Problem Solving

  • Participates in the on-call rotation. Assists others with maintaining procedures and specifications related to daily business of Integrated Security and other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department.
  • Take readings from test equipment and view system documentation, which are used to decide on proper actions and procedures to take when, faced with security hardware and software problems.
  • Follow life-safety precautions when installing security systems software or hardware.
  • Work with others to recognize and/or detect service issues that become persistent or ongoing in nature.
  • When a security/access systems or device fails, determine problem and arrives at a solution by calibrating, measuring and inspecting the components of these systems such as power supplies, logic components, communications ports and wiring, contacts, switches, relays, recording devices and computer software.
  • Working with higher-level positions, this position will install, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical keyed systems, electronic access control and video systems all over housing and dining facilities that are all tied to a central server/control.

What You Should Know

This position operates University vehicles and requires an active Driver's License in good standing.

What We Require

  • One year of technical experience repairing, performing maintenance, installing, modifying, calibrating, certifying, or fabricating equipment and facilities related to the work assignment. Equipment and facilities may be in the areas of telecommunications, media, precision measuring equipment, or other electronics equipment and facilities.
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience servicing/installing mechanical locks and access control equipment.
