JILA is encouraging applications for a 12-month Temporary Instrument Shop Assistant position to work on laboratory upgrades, maintenance and shop projects.

Who We Are

JILA is a strong community focused on doing excellent research in several fields of Physics. The JILA Instrument Shop is part of a talented scientific support staff that includes the Computing Group, Electronics Shop, Keck Lab & Clean Room, Scientific Communications, Purchasing & Supply Office, Custodial staff, Administration staff, and many others dedicated to helping JILA scientists work as efficiently as possible. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

JILA Instrument Shop Assistant will help the Instrument Shop with maintenance, lab projects, moving laser tables, ordering equipment, and general question answering.

What We Can Offer

  • Pay: $40.00/hr.; 40 hours/week; eligible for overtime 
  • This temporary position is not eligible for benefits; however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require

  • Good mechanical skills
  • Experience working around sensitive laboratory equipment, preferably within a higher education setting
  • Experience with moving, and rigging of laboratory equipment
  • The ability to advise and teach safe techniques for working in laboratory and machine shop spaces
  • Excellent organizational skills to keep laboratory and machine shop spaces safe and productive
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and precautions
  • Enthusiasm to encourage and support scientific research

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience working with and maintaining clean room equipment
  • Experience setting up laboratory optics tables
  • Degree in engineering, physics or similar
