Job Summary
The University of Colorado, Boulder's Housing Facilities Services department is accepting applications for a Materials Specialist II! This position will acquire, store, distribute, record inventory activity of equipment, tools, furniture, supplies and other parts as well as operate vehicles, move furniture, appliances, equipment and supplies within HFS department and assist other trades personnel as needed. The role will operate medium-sized trucks including a box truck and equipment, typically with no more than two axles, to pick up and deliver goods, materials or passengers. The work also includes monitoring the mechanical condition and cleanliness of the equipment, inspecting, and maintaining fluid and air pressure levels, and keeping associated records and reports.

Housing Facilities Services (HFS) is a comprehensive facility management operation that provides around-the-clock support to over 10,000 residents and 20,000 conference guests annually. Services include maintenance, repair, renovation, project management, capital construction, housekeeping and grounds-keeping operations. HFS has approximately 190 full-time employees and approximately 80 part-time and student staff, who all strive to give residents the best living experience possible.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Determining Specification:
- Review specifications for equipment, tools, parts and supplies to determine the best value for items by reviewing price quotes and standing purchase orders.
Purchase Stock and Non-Stock Material:
- Purchase equipment parts, services, and supplies for inventory as well as special or emergency needs.
- Negotiate pricing and shipping with suppliers.
Warehousing/Shipping/Receiving/Material Locating:
- Determine organizational pattern and layout for inventory, storage and shelving. Insure proper and adequate stock levels of storeroom and inventory items.
- Keep inventory records accurate by entering computer and handwritten records. Insure goods are received in compliance with original order.
- Loading and unloading of deliveries and shipments, stocking shelves, annual inventory, organizing and cleaning of warehouse and storeroom.
Account set up and P-card Management:
- Manage P-card purchases and statement monthly.
- Set up new accounts both online and on the phone including tax exempt paperwork and documents.
Deliver, Set Up, and Assemble appliances, furniture and supplies for HDS Facilities:
- Delivering materials and supplies to worksites.
- Assemble furniture and appliances.
- Repair furniture, appliances and equipment. Use of a university vehicle will be required to complete most of these duties.
- Must be CMV (commercial motor vehicle) certified.
- Coordinate the delivery set up and removal of equipment material and supplies while minimizing impact on students and faculty.
- Choose the best material handling tools and delivery methods.
- Determine the best way to safely lift, move, and operate vehicles and equipment.
- Daily driving requirement of a box truck (10,000lbs plus)
- Remove snow and ice from parking lots, sidewalks, streets, patios, and entrances, as well as apply salt to enhance safety of entrances.
What You Should Know
- The anticipated shift for this position will be from Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
- This position operates University vehicles and requires a Drivers' License in good standing.
What We Can Offer
- The annual salary for this position is $46,114.

What We Require
- Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position. A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years.
- Related experience includes material handling and snow removal equipment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) certification to operate vehicles essential to the position.
What You Will Need
- Ability to multitask, use material handling equipment, use a computerized inventory system, must have good attention to detail skills and the ability to provide good customer service.
- Ability to safely operate university vehicles.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Mechanically inclined.
- Previous purchasing experience helpful.
- Inventory management experience helpful.
- Previous experience working in Higher-Ed helpful.
- Ability to learn how to operate driving a truck with GVWR of 10,001-lbs or greater.
