Job Summary

The University of Colorado’s Center for Health and Neuroscience, Genes, and Environment (CUChange) has a full-time Professional Research Assistant position available. Work will take place in Boulder, with the possibility of occasional trips to the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Preferred start date is May 1, 2025.

Who We Are

We are a motivated team that conducts transdisciplinary research exploring factors linked with health and risk behavior in a number of populations. We seek a full-time research assistant to aid in the collection and processing of biological samples, biomarker data quality control and management, and human subjects research support as necessary.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

We seek a full-time research assistant to supervise all bench work performed at CUChange, oversee/train a team of undergraduate research assistants, order and maintain lab supplies for several studies, manage and project cost-sharing across several studies, coordinate sample drop offs with study teams, and maintain laboratory safety codes. Lab duties include DNA extraction and quantification from whole blood, lipopolysaccharide stimulation of whole blood, isolation of plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells from whole blood, bead-based/traditional ELISA, PCR methods, biomarker multiplexing, freezer upkeep, and data management and quality control.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary range for this full-time position is $49,000.00 to $52,000.00

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Pre-Health, Human/Integrative Physiology, Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent degree and skillset
  • Experience supervising and mentoring others professionally
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with study staff, postdoctoral researchers, undergraduates, principal investigators, and other laboratories
  • Experience with qPCR, real time PCR, sandwich ELISA, and bead-based ELISA
  • Experience handling biohazardous materials such as human blood, stool, urine and saliva samples
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals
  • Experience operating various laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, swinging bucket/micro centrifuge, multichannel/single channel pipettes, biological safety cabinet, qubit fluorometer, absorbance microplate readers, and cell incubator

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Ability to extract DNA from whole blood samples
  • Knowledge of Flow Cytometry
  • Ability to complete ELISA kits with high R2
  • Experience with management of laboratory supplies and sample inventories
  • Experience working with human research participants
  • REDCap project design and management
  • Automated data management utilizing application programming interface (API) functionality 
  • Literacy in R/RStudio
