Job Summary

The Senior Coordinator for Events and Outreach will play a pivotal role in achieving these goals by spearheading the development of educational events addressing basic needs and insecurities. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this position will also focus on enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within outreach efforts and fostering partnerships across campus for impactful presentations and events.

In collaboration with the BNC team of professional and student staff, this position plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts culturally inclusive, equity-minded, and trauma-informed services to impact food insecurity, food justice, and hunger on behalf of the Basic Needs Center for students, staff, and faculty at the University of Colorado.

Approved in 2022, the Basic Needs Center serves as a one stop student support service for students seeking assistance meeting their basic needs. This is a new department and position, the staff in this position will need to possess the following: create sustainable systems and programs to support students, implement vision, develop and manage growth of services and programs, seek input, engage collaboratively with campus and community partners to support students effectively, manage significant change and ambiguity in the development of the office and processes and communicate effectively to team members the successes and challenges.

Who We Are

The Division of Student Life consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.

The Basic Needs Center is a support service for students seeking assistance accessing essential resources. The center provides equitable access to basic needs for students during their time at CU Boulder and helps them develop the skills needed to navigate local and national emergency needs services.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Program Development and Event Management

  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of programs and events that address students’ essential needs, including housing, mental health, and employment.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of events that are welcoming, culturally responsive, and sensitive to the varied experiences of students.
  • Direct cross-campus collaborations to design and deliver impactful programming; manage relationships with external partners such as food banks, housing agencies, and nonprofits.
  • Set event objectives, manage timelines, and ensure successful execution through oversight of logistics, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate program outcomes using data-driven assessments; implement improvements to enhance reach and effectiveness.
  • Ensure all events and services are designed to be accessible, respectful, and relevant to students from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Manage event budgets, ensuring compliance with university fiscal policies and donor accountability standards.
  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of promotional materials in collaboration with communications staff.

Outreach and Partnership Strategy

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive outreach strategy to increase awareness and utilization of basic needs resources across diverse student populations.
  • Manage strategic partnerships with campus departments, student organizations, and community agencies to expand service impact.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for outreach initiatives, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with institutional values of inclusion and student support.
  • Supervise the development and execution of communication campaigns, including social media, newsletters, and print materials, in coordination with Student Life Communications.
  • Lead outreach planning efforts, including tabling, presentations, and workshops, to ensure broad and inclusive student engagement.

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Manage, train, and mentor a team of up to 10 student staff, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and student-centered team culture.
  • Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively to student staff and volunteers, ensuring quality and consistency in program delivery.

Strategic Support and Departmental Development

  • Lead special initiatives to enhance awareness of public benefits and emergency support services.
  • Collaborate with leadership to review and improve emergency fund processes and student support systems.
  • Use university systems (CU Serves, Maxient, Pantry Soft) to ensure accurate data tracking and service delivery.
  • Contribute to the long-term development of the Basic Needs Center by implementing sustainable systems, managing change, and communicating progress to collaborators.

What You Should Know

The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, some nights and weekends for events and training, has the ability to work remotely in accordance with the university hybrid policy.

  • The starting salary for this position is $55,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, sociology, political science, human services, or, a related field. Appropriate experience may substitute for the degree requirement. (on a year for year basis).
  • 3+ years related professional experience overseeing events, outreach, basic needs initiatives, case management, student support, or student conduct oversight in higher education or nonprofit organization with a proven track record of increasing responsibility.
  • 1+ year of professional work experience in an area related to advising college students.
  • Progressively responsible management experience within higher education or nonprofit organizations.

  • Experience and passion for working with undergraduate students.
  • Exceptional interpersonal relationship-building skills and experience working with a wide range of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, community members, and nonprofit community partners.
  • Experience communicating with and supporting people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in training and development.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Experience and comfort with digital and technology tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, project management tools, including social media, data analytics tools, and volunteer management software (GivePulse is a plus).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in program development that is responsive to local realities and involves responding to a variety of constituents and viewpoints.
  • Experience working with collegiate-level teaching faculty members to develop community-engagement opportunities related to their courses.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • 4+ years of experience managing basic and emergency needs, educational programs.
  • 1+ years of experience managing outreach and partnerships, marketing, or volunteer recruitment.
  • 1+ years supervising students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and practice implementing equity based programs.
