Job Summary
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Temporary HR Generalist! This role will be responsible for delivering HR support for multiple employee groups within the unit (hourly student employees, working retirees, temporary staff, temporary research faculty). This position will ensure excellent customer service to CIRES employees, CIRES Administration, and other business partners within the university. The position may collaborate regularly with CIRES Finance and other CIRES Administration units to support our staff, faculty, and students.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
HR Administration
- Coordinate various human resource procedures for all personnel classifications (staff, faculty, students) and maintain appropriate records. Accurately answer employee questions on a variety of HR-related topics and address employee concerns in a timely manner.
- Maintain employee records by entering accurate data into the HRMS, which includes new hire paperwork, salary and funding information changes, terminations, supervisor changes, and verifying changes are applied accurately.
- Co-manage CIRES’ employee database to include balancing/validating data entry to ensure data integrity and supporting routine reporting requests, as needed.
Recruitment and Hiring
- Assist with the administrative processes for hiring the following employment groups: hourly student employees, temporary employees, and working retirees.
- Work with the appropriate campus offices, such as Research Faculty HR and CU Talent Acquisition, to advertise and recruit for these types of positions.
- Enter hourly student hires into the Peoplesoft Human Capital Management (HCM) system, and provide them with instructions for new hire tasks (submitting their I-9, entering direct deposit/W4 information, submitting timesheets, navigating the employee portal, etc.)
Various Payroll and HR Data Management Duties
- Process moving expense reimbursements for new Research Faculty/University Staff hires.
- Enter pay rate changes for hourly student employees.
- Process award payments and Additional Pay for work beyond normal duties (for all employee types).
- Maintain compliance with the federal, state, and local laws and partners with the applicable University departments when needed.
- Support of ad hoc HR projects.
What You Should Know
This position is a temporary, hybrid role that requires a minimum of two days onsite per week with Tuesday being one of them. Hybrid work arrangements will follow current CIRES and university guidance and policies. We anticipate this role working 30-40 hours per week depending on team needs.
We anticipate this to be a 7-month position, with the possibility of extending to 12 months. Anticipated dates of the position are around February 2026 through August 2026.
What We Can Offer
The hourly salary range for this position is $27.98 - $35.00 per hour.

What We Require
- At least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- At least 1+ years of professional, job related experience.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Previous experience providing HR support within a large complex organization, preferably in a university or research setting.
- Previous experience using a Human Resources Management System (HRMS), such as PeopleSoft HCM.
