Job Summary

BioServe Space Technologies is seeking a motivated individual with experience and interest in system administration, network administration and software development for space flight hardware projects. Join our team of professionals and students developing and operating space life science experiments on board the International Space Station and other Low Earth Orbit and beyond platforms. Primary duties involve system administration, network administration with some focus on software engineering/coding duties. As a team member you’ll contribute your skills and experience to help maintain and improve BioServe’s day-to-day operations via its IT infrastructure and network for its space life sciences payloads. BioServe is a fast-paced Center within the University of Colorado with multiple space flight projects. Our team works closely together and collaborates with scientists, engineers, students and other colleagues and stakeholders. Who We Are

BioServe Space Technologies is a space life sciences research and hardware development Center, within the Ann and HJ Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. With over 36 years of experience and excellence in this field and over 100 missions flown, BioServe is recognized as a world leader in the space life sciences. Though a small organization, BioServe has extensive expertise in hardware and software design and development, mission integration and operations, electrical, software and data systems and the life sciences.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Support the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operations of BioServe’s overall network including computer systems and servers and support BioServe’s space life sciences research through this work.
  • Maintain and upgrade BioServe’s servers, data handling systems including its extensive IT infrastructure.
  • Participate in the development of software for space flight hardware and supporting systems.

What You Should Know

This is a part-time, temporary position with the possibility to move to a more permanent position. The position is expected to average up to 20 hours per week.

What We Can Offer

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $50.00 per hour.

What We Require

  • Strong technical knowledge in Linux server and Windows client computer setup, operation and maintenance is required.
  • Software development experience a strong plus, especially C, C++ and Python.
  • Occasional user support will be required but is not a primary responsibility.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and multiple deadlines.
  • Attention to detail with ability to understand technical documentation, and persistence to see tasks through to completion.
  • Strong language skills to document work.
  • Additionally, the International Space Station operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week based on the UTC clock. The ability and willingness to work flexible work hours outside of M-F 8-5 is a must.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • 5+ years’ experience with system administration and/or network administration.
  • 3+ years’ experience with software development in C, C++ and/or Python.
  • SQL Server and database management.
  • Previous experience in a similar technical support role or software development role.
  • Familiarity with space life science research.
  • Experience with hardware development, electronics development, and low-level software interfacing to electronics.
