Job Summary

The Stowell Lab invites applications for a Temporary Researcher! This role supports as a PhD level biochemist to optimize peptide synthesis and computational pipeline for targeting undruggable targets.
CU is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment. We are committed to creating a workplace where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and we encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

Our lab investigates the molecular and supramolecular machinery that enables neurons to communicate at chemical synapses—and how these assemblies are disrupted in neurological disease. We focus on the spatial organization of macromolecular complexes, tracking how they assemble, rearrange, and function during synaptic transmission and plasticity. Leveraging cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryoET) with subtomogram averaging, we capture structures from individual proteins to intact synapses in situ. By integrating these multi-scale data, we aim to build a dynamic architectural map of the chemical synapse that informs mechanisms of synapse formation, modulation, and dysfunction.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Roles include developing a state-of-the-art software tools that integrate chemical structure modeling, cellular permeability quantification, and peptide-target interaction simulations.
  • Provide key insights into how shape-shifting conformations may enhance drug delivery and target engagement.
  • Establish a computational framework to predict how dynamic peptides interact with both ordered and disordered protein targets.
  • Oversee peptide drug synthesis and purification.
  • Oversee cellular activity assays.
  • Contribute to the iterative refinement of our models through data analysis and close collaboration with experimental teams.
  • Generate results and documentation that could lead to high-impact publications and propel the research forward.
